What Is a Spear Point?

On a spear point, the spine and the edge curve toward each other symmetrically, meeting at a tip that sits on the centre line of the blade. That central point gives more steel directly behind the tip than a clip point, so it is strong and pierces straight.

What Do the Serrations and Spine Teeth Do?

The partial serrations near the guard handle fibrous material that a plain edge tends to slide across: rope, webbing, cord, and tough stems. Keeping them to the rear of the edge leaves the front two thirds as a plain edge for clean slicing and controlled cuts.

Worth knowing: serrations cannot be sharpened on a flat stone. They need a tapered rod worked through each scallop. The plain section sharpens normally.

The teeth along the spine suit scoring and notching rather than sawing. A true wood saw needs set teeth that cut wider than the blade, which is not practical on a knife spine, so spine teeth bind in wood after a few strokes.

Why Micarta for the Handle?

Micarta is layered canvas compressed in resin under heat and pressure. The fabric texture gives it grip, and unlike smooth synthetics it becomes tackier rather than slicker when wet, which suits a knife used outdoors.

The grooves cut across this handle add further purchase, and brass pins secure the scales through the full tang. Full tang construction runs the steel the length of the grip, so there is no weak joint between blade and handle.

Micarta needs no oiling or conditioning. Wipe it clean and dry it.

What Does the Drop-Leg Sheath Provide?

The black leather sheath carries the knife lower on the thigh rather than high on the belt, which keeps it clear of a pack hip belt or a seated position. Snap straps secure the handle and the leg, and a D-ring at the tip takes a tie-down cord.

Use the sheath for carrying rather than long-term storage, since leather holds humidity against steel.

How Should You Care for It?

Wash the blade with mild soap and warm water, then dry it. Stainless resists rust rather than being immune to it, so avoid soaking and do not put it away wet. Rinse and dry the serrations and spine teeth carefully, since debris collects in the gullets first.

Keep it out of the dishwasher and avoid steel wool or abrasive pads, which scratch the finish. A light wipe of mineral oil before long storage does no harm but is not required.
