What Is the Blade Built For?

The clip point drops the spine in a concave curve toward the tip, giving a fine, controllable point on a blade otherwise shaped for general work. Below it, a generous belly curves the cutting edge for long slicing strokes.

Does the Sawback Actually Saw?

Worth being honest about, because sawback spines are one of the most oversold features in knife marketing.

The teeth along the spine are cut at a spacing and angle that suits notching and scoring rather than sawing through wood. A true wood saw needs set teeth, where alternate teeth are bent slightly outward so the cut is wider than the blade, and that is not practical on a knife spine. Without set, the blade binds in the cut within a few strokes.

Treat the sawback as useful for scoring a notch, roughing up a surface, or stripping bark, and as a strong visual signature. For actual sawing, a folding saw does the job properly.

What Do the Brass Fittings Do?

The brass guard sits at the front of the handle and extends into a ring below the grip. The ring positions your index finger ahead of the handle and behind the edge, which does two things: it keeps the hand from sliding forward onto the blade during a hard push cut, and it gives positive retention so the knife stays located in the grip when your hand is wet.

The brass pommel at the butt sweeps upward into a hook that the heel of the hand pulls against, and its mass sits behind the grip, pulling the balance point back toward the handle.

Brass warms in tone and takes a patina with handling unless polished. Many owners prefer the aged look and leave it.

What Does the Leather Sheath Provide?

The sheath is dark brown leather with contrast stitching around the perimeter and a snap-fastened strap that holds the knife by the handle. The strap keeps the knife seated during movement, which matters with a guard and pommel this pronounced, since they can otherwise catch and lift the knife out.

Dry the blade before it goes back in. Leather holds humidity against steel, so use the sheath for carrying rather than long-term storage.

How Should You Care for It?

Wipe the blade after use, wash with mild soap and warm water if needed, and dry it fully. Pay attention to the sawback teeth, where water and debris collect in the gullets between each tooth. Stainless resists rust rather than being immune to it, so a thin coat of mineral oil before storage is worthwhile.

Wipe the brass fittings with a soft dry cloth after handling. A brass polish restores the bright finish if you prefer it to patina.
