The Last Stand Bowie

The Last Stand is our handmade tribute to the most famous bowie in film — the Rambo Last Blood bowie knife. It's a full-tang Damascus bowie knife with an 8-inch VG10 Damascus blade, a forged Damascus guard, and a brown micarta handle finished with a leather lanyard. It carries the long, lean clip-point profile of the Rambo bowie from Last Blood, but where the licensed movie replicas are stamped from plain stainless, this one is forged by hand in real VG10 Damascus. A working hunter's bowie and a collector's Rambo knife in one.

Who makes it

Every Stag Steel blade is forged by hand by Naqash Minhas, our founder and master maker, forging since 2001. The Last Stand isn't assembled from bought-in parts. Naqash forges the blade and the guard from Damascus, grinds the blade, heat treats it, fits the micarta, and finishes the whole knife by hand in our Canadian shop. When you buy one, you're buying one man's hand work, not a factory production run.

The blade — VG10 Damascus

The blade is VG10 Damascus, forged from VG10 and 15N20. The VG10 gives you a hard, keen cutting edge that's stainless and resists rust, and the 15N20 gives the pattern its bright contrast against the darker steel. The flowing Damascus you see is real — folded and forge-welded into the steel, not etched on the surface. Down the spine the blade carries a long fuller and a clip-point grind that puts the point right where a bowie should have it. At 8 inches it's a serious working length, big enough for camp and field, balanced enough to handle all day.

Compare that to the licensed Last Blood replicas, which use plain 7Cr-series stainless. They look the part on a shelf, but they're soft single-steel blades. This is forged Damascus with a stainless VG10 edge — a different league of knife.

How the Damascus is forged

This is where a real handmade blade separates from the imports. Naqash stacks two contrasting steels into a billet, then forge-welds them at welding heat — a bright orange-yellow — under the press. He draws that bar out, folds it back on itself, and welds it again, and every fold doubles the layer count, climbing from a handful of layers into the hundreds. How the bar is worked, drawn straight or pressed, decides the flowing pattern you see along the blade. Only when the pattern is right does he forge it down to the bowie profile and grind in the clip point and the fuller.

The heat treat — the part that actually matters

A blade is only as good as its heat treat, and this is the step the cheap blades skip. A beautiful pattern on a soft blade is a wall decoration, not a knife. After grinding, Naqash hardens the blade and tempers it back to a working hardness of 59 to 61 HRC at the edge — hard enough to take and hold a keen edge, tough enough to survive real field use. The pattern tells you nothing about how a knife performs. The heat treat tells you everything, and ours is done by hand, right, every time. Then the blade is polished and etched in a mild acid, which darkens one steel and leaves the other bright, raising the Damascus pattern to the surface.

The handle — brown micarta and a full tang

The handle is brown micarta, bolted to a full-tang blade. Micarta is the handle material serious users ask for: it's layered canvas set in resin, so it won't crack, swell, rot, or get slippery when it's wet with rain, sweat, or blood. The brown has a worn, working look that suits a field bowie. The full tang means there's solid steel running the entire length of the handle — there's no weak point where a stick tang would snap under hard use. A leather lanyard runs through the butt for carry or hanging. This is a handle built to be used, not babied.

Made by hand in Canada

We've been forging at Stag Steel Knives since 2001, and every blade is forged, ground, heat treated, and finished by hand in our Canadian shop. That's the difference between this and the licensed movie replicas: real Damascus, a real forged guard, a real heat treat, one knife at a time. If you want the Rambo Last Blood bowie look in a blade that's actually forged rather than stamped, the Last Stand is it.

It belongs in our Damascus bowie knives collection and our wider bowie knives range, and it's equally at home among our hunting knives and Damascus hunting knives as a big field blade. New to the steel or the blade style? Our maker breaks it down in what a bowie knife is and in what a Damascus knife really is. Carrying or shipping a blade this size in Canada? Read our plain-English guide to bowie knife laws in Canada first. And if you're weighing your options, this one earned its place in our roundup of the best bowie knives for collectors and hunters. Even though the VG10 edge resists rust, a blade this nice deserves good habits — our guide on how to care for a Damascus knife keeps the pattern sharp for decades. Want the man behind the forge? Read about the makers.

If you like the rest of our movie-inspired bowies, the Last Stand sits right alongside our Tombstone Arkansas toothpick and the Crocodile Dundee bowie knife — same hand-forged standard, three very different blades.

One at a time means this exact knife is the only one of its kind. When it sells, the next bowie won't carry the same pattern. Free shipping across Canada, with affordable shipping rates to the USA and worldwide.

FAQs

What is the handle made of on this bowie knife?
The handle is brown micarta over a full tang, with a leather lanyard. Micarta is layered canvas in resin, so it won't crack, swell, or get slippery when wet, which makes it one of the toughest handle materials for a working knife.
Is this Damascus bowie blade stainless or will it rust?
The blade is VG10 Damascus, and the VG10 cutting steel is stainless, so it resists rust far better than the carbon-steel and plain-stainless bowies common online, while holding a hard, hand heat-treated 59 to 61 HRC edge. A wipe and an occasional light oil keeps it perfect.
What is a Damascus bowie knife?
A bowie is a large fixed-blade knife with a clip point, built for hunting, camp, and heavy field work. This Rambo-style Damascus bowie has an 8-inch VG10 blade, a forged Damascus guard, and a full-tang micarta handle, built as both a working knife and a collector piece.
Is this a Rambo Last Blood bowie knife?
This is a handmade Damascus bowie inspired by the Rambo Last Blood bowie profile — the long clip-point blade seen in the film. It's forged by hand in Canada by Stag Steel Knives and is an independent tribute, not an officially licensed replica, which is why it's built in real VG10 Damascus rather than the stamped stainless of the movie versions.
