What Makes Our Rasp Steel Hawkbill Knife Stand Out?
Our Custom Handmade Rasp Steel Hawkbill Knife pairs reforged farrier's rasp with a grooved stag horn handle, keeping the original rasp teeth standing along the spine and shoulder.
Most reclaimed rasp blades grind that tooth pattern away and lose the whole reason anyone wanted rasp steel to begin with. Here the teeth stay proud against a mirror polished flat, so the tool the steel used to be is still legible in the knife it became. More reforged blades sit in our rasp steel knives collection.

Why Use Rasp Steel for a Knife?
Farrier's rasps are cut from high carbon tool steel because they have to bite through hoof horn all day without going dull. Reforged and heat treated to 60 HRC, that same stock takes a hard edge and keeps it.
Retained teeth are not only decoration. The crosshatch gives the thumb a positive resting point on the spine, which matters when you choke up for a controlled cut. Similar working profiles appear across our cowboy knives range.
What Is a Hawkbill Blade Shaped For?
The edge sweeps downward, so material gets drawn into the cut rather than pushed away from it. Rope, twine, cordage and hide all part more willingly under a pulling stroke.
Force also gathers near the middle of the curve, close to the knuckles, where hand control is strongest. Buyers who prefer a wide straight edge can compare our bull cutter knives.
Why a Stag Horn Handle?
Stag horn carries a ridged, faintly porous surface that grips back against the palm. Wet hands, gloved hands and bloodied hands all still find purchase, without needing a deliberate squeeze.
Deep finger scallops are cut into the horn rather than moulded to a fixed pattern, so the hand settles into a repeatable position every time. Horn also warms to skin temperature quickly, which makes a difference on cold mornings when steel and synthetic grips both stay stubbornly cold.
What Is a Cross Draw Leather Sheath?
Cross draw carry lays the knife flat across the front of the belt, angled for a clean pull with the opposite hand. Nothing digs in when you sit, ride or bend forward.
Belt slots are cut into the body of the leather rather than stitched on as a separate loop, keeping the sheath tight to the hip through a full day's work.
Can the Knife Be Custom Engraved?
Personalised engraving is available. Add your text in the Engraving Instructions field before adding to cart, and our makers will apply it by hand.
Names, dates and initials suit the polished ricasso, since the toothed panels offer no flat surface. Send longer requests or artwork to support@stagsteelknives.com so we can confirm placement before work begins. Engraved pieces are made to order, so allow extra production time.
How Should the Knife Be Maintained?
Wipe the blade dry after use and apply a light coat of oil before storage. High carbon steel spots quickly if left damp, and water sits in the valleys between the rasp teeth, so dry that area properly.
Stag horn needs almost nothing. A rare wipe of mineral oil keeps it from drying out in low humidity. Condition the leather once or twice a year and store the knife outside the sheath for long periods.
Why Choose Our Rasp Steel Hawkbill Knife?
Our hawkbill brings together reclaimed farrier's rasp at 60 HRC, a retained tooth spine, a scalloped stag horn grip and a tooled cross draw sheath in a 7 inch package. Suited to ranch work, everyday cutting and collectors drawn to reforged tool steel.
