A Field Knife Built for Generations, Not Seasons

Some tools earn their place on your belt. This one earns a spot in your family's story. The Gut Hook Rasp Steel Cowboy Knife pairs old-world craftsmanship with modern D2 tool steel, delivering a blade that works as hard as you do and looks good doing it.

Every knife leaves our shop sharp, balanced, and ready for the field. The gut hook is ground for clean, controlled cuts when dressing game. The camel bone handle is shaped to sit naturally in your palm, even after hours of use. And the D2 blade holds its edge through the kind of work that sends lesser steels back to the sharpener.

D2 Tool Steel Blade

Hardened to 59-61 RC, this 3-inch blade delivers the edge retention of a premium tool steel. D2 is known for outstanding wear resistance, so you spend less time sharpening and more time cutting. A light coat of oil after use is all it asks in return.

Genuine Camel Bone Handle

No two handles are identical. Camel bone carries a natural grain and warmth that synthetic materials cannot replicate. It develops a subtle patina over time, gaining character with every season afield. Comfortable in hand, secure in the grip, and unmistakably authentic.

Purpose-Built Gut Hook

The gut hook is not an afterthought. It is ground sharp and shaped to open a hide cleanly without puncturing the cavity, keeping your field dressing fast and your meat clean. Whether you are processing whitetail or clearing brush, it does one job exceptionally well.

Quick Care Tips

1 Keep the Blade Dry and Oiled +
D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel with excellent wear resistance, but it is not rust-proof. After each use, wipe the blade clean and apply a light coat of mineral oil or blade oil. Store in a dry place, preferably in the leather sheath only after the blade is dry and oiled.
2 Care for the Camel Bone Handle +
Camel bone is a natural material that benefits from occasional conditioning. Apply a small amount of mineral oil or a neutral wood-and-bone conditioner to the handle every few months to prevent drying and cracking. Avoid prolonged soaking in water and extreme temperature changes.
3 Sharpening the Gut Hook +
The main edge sharpens like any quality D2 blade, use a fine diamond stone or ceramic rod at the factory angle. The gut hook requires a tapered round file or a specialized hook sharpener. Take your time and maintain the original grind angle. When in doubt, a professional sharpening service is always a safe bet.
4 Leather Sheath Maintenance +
The pancake leather sheath is built to last, but leather benefits from care. Keep it dry and apply a leather conditioner once or twice a year to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking. Do not store the knife in the sheath for extended periods in humid conditions.

FAQs

How does the custom engraving work?
Select the custom engraving option at checkout for an additional CAD $20. You can add a name, a short message, or a meaningful quote directly onto the blade. It is a popular choice for gifts, commemorations, and personalizing a knife you plan to carry for years.
What is rasp steel?
It's high-carbon steel repurposed from a farrier's rasp, the file used to shape horse hooves. Forged into a blade, it holds a great edge and keeps the raised file teeth, giving each knife its signature look and history.
Does it come with a sheath?
Yes, every Knife ships with a handmade pancake leather sheath, ready to carry out of the box.
