Description

Hand-Forged Copper Damascus Bowie Knife

This hand-forged Bowie knife is crafted from copper Damascus steel, a distinctive, flowing pattern created by layering copper and steel. Each piece carries its own natural design, making no two knives exactly alike. The forging process enhances both visual appeal and structural integrity, resulting in a blade that reflects skilled workmanship.

You can explore our full collection of Bowie knives to compare different builds and sizes.

Thick Blade Profile and Strength

The knife features a strong, 5-6mm thick blade profile designed for durability and reliable cutting performance. Its solid construction supports stability during use, while the full tang build adds balance and strength throughout the knife.

Double Guard Protection and Control

A prominent Damascus double guard is integrated into the design, offering added protection for the hand and improved control during handling. This feature also contributes to the classic Bowie knife profile, giving it a commanding and recognizable look.

Handle Grip and Carry

The handle is shaped for a firm, comfortable grip, enabling better control in various conditions. Paired with a well-crafted sheath, the knife is suitable for safe storage and carrying. Bring home a blade that reflects traditional forging techniques, bold design, and dependable construction.

Blade Material and Steel Composition

This copper Damascus blade is forged using a combination of 1095 high carbon steel and 15N20 steel, layered together with copper to create the signature pattern.

  • 1095 steel provides hardness and edge retention
  • 15N20 adds toughness and flexibility
  • Copper layers create contrast and visual depth

This combination produces a blade that balances strength, durability, and cutting performance.

Many buyers compare this model with other copper Damascus Bowie knives to see pattern variations.

Heat Treatment Process and Performance

After forging, the blade undergoes a controlled heat treatment process to achieve the right balance of hardness, strength, and durability.

The blade is first heated to approximately 1475°F (800°C), where the steel reaches its critical transformation stage. It is held at this temperature for around 10 minutes to allow the internal structure to fully stabilize.

Once ready, the blade is rapidly quenched in warm quench oil, which locks in hardness while reducing stress and the risk of cracking.

After quenching, the blade is tempered at controlled temperatures between 375°F and 425°F, often in multiple cycles. This step reduces brittleness and improves toughness, ensuring the blade performs reliably under real use conditions.

This process results in a final hardness of 59–61 HRC, giving the blade:

  • Strong edge retention
  • Resistance to chipping
  • Balanced toughness for heavy use

The heat treatment is carefully controlled to preserve both the cutting performance and the layered structure of the copper Damascus steel.

Blade Construction Process

Copper Damascus steel is created through a layered forging process.

  • Multiple layers of steel and copper are stacked
  • The billet is heated and forge-welded
  • The metal is folded and forged repeatedly
  • Patterns form naturally through this process

This is not surface decoration. The pattern runs through the entire blade. That is why every knife looks different.

Made in Canada

This knife is crafted in Canada, where attention to detail and controlled production standards ensure consistent quality.

Each piece reflects careful forging, finishing, and inspection before it reaches the customer.

Makers Behind the Blade

This blade is produced through a collaboration between:

N. Minhas and Chris Merrett

Their combined work brings together:

  • Traditional forging knowledge
  • Modern finishing techniques
  • Focus on performance and durability

This collaboration ensures the knife is not only visually strong but also built for real use.

FAQs

What is the advantage of a thick blade profile on a Bowie knife?
A thick blade profile provides enhanced durability and structural integrity, allowing the knife to handle high-pressure tasks like chopping and heavy-duty slicing without bending. This solid construction ensures a stable feel and reliable cutting performance in rugged outdoor conditions.
Why should I choose a Bowie knife with a double guard?
The double guard is a critical safety feature that provides a secure barrier for your hand, preventing it from slipping toward the sharp edge during intense use. It also improves overall handling balance and preserves the classic, commanding silhouette of a traditional Bowie knife.
Is this hand-forged Copper Damascus knife full-tang?
Yes. This knife features a full-tang build, meaning the hand-forged copper Damascus steel extends through the entire length of the handle. This design is the benchmark for strength and balance, making the knife dependable for long-term survival and utility work.
Are the patterns on Copper Damascus steel permanent?
Yes, the flowing patterns are a permanent result of the forging process, where layers of copper and steel are fused together. Because the design is part of the metal's structure rather than a surface etch, it will remain visible for the life of the blade, eventually developing a unique, natural patina.
