Description

Layered steel, a polished guard and the crown of a genuine deer antler. Hand forged Damascus makes the blade one of a kind, and the natural antler crown makes the handle one of a kind too, so no two of these 9 inch hunting knives will ever match. Built for the hunt and camp, and handsome enough to give as a gift that gets passed down.

What Makes a Damascus Hunting Knife Special?

Modern Damascus is pattern welded steel: layers of two different steels forge welded together, folded and shaped by hand. After grinding, an acid etch reveals the flowing pattern you see on the blade. Every billet forges a little differently, so the pattern on your knife exists nowhere else.

The layering does more than look good. Combining a high carbon steel with a contrasting alloy gives a blade that takes a keen edge and holds up to field use. Learn more in our Damascus vs D2 steel guide, or explore more blades like this in our Damascus hunting knives collection.

Why Choose a Deer Antler Crown Handle?

The crown is the burr at the base of a deer antler, where it meets the skull. It is the densest, most textured part of the antler, and it gives this knife its distinctive flared pommel. Natural ridges and pearling along the antler give a secure grip, even with wet or cold hands, and antler stays warmer to the touch than steel or stone in winter.

Because every antler grows differently, the colour, shape and texture of each handle will vary from the photos. A polished steel guard with dark spacers separates the antler from the blade. For more antler on Damascus, see our stag horn Damascus gut hook knife, and compare handle materials in our knife handle materials guide.

What Is a 9 Inch Hunting Knife Used For?

  • Hunting: skinning, caping and field dressing deer and smaller game. The drop point blade gives a controllable tip and a working belly for skinning cuts. More dedicated blades live in our skinning knives collection.
  • Camping: food prep, cutting cordage and everyday camp chores.
  • Bushcraft: feather sticks, notches and light carving.
  • Gifting and collecting: a natural antler crown and a hand forged pattern make it a memorable gift for birthdays, groomsmen, anniversaries and retirements.

Is a Damascus Knife a Good Groomsmen Gift?

Few gifts carry the same weight. A hand forged Damascus knife with a real antler handle is useful for decades, and because each blade pattern and antler is unique, every groomsman ends up with a knife that is his alone. Pair it with personal engraving on the blade or sheath and it becomes an heirloom. Looking for more gift ideas? Browse our best hunting knives.

What Sheath Comes With the Knife?

Each knife ships with a thick genuine leather belt sheath, hand stitched and shaped to hold the blade securely for carry and storage.

How Do You Care for a Damascus Knife With an Antler Handle?

Damascus contains high carbon steel, so it can rust if neglected. Wipe the blade clean and dry right after use, then add a light coat of food-safe mineral oil to protect the steel and keep the pattern crisp. Never leave it wet or store it in a damp sheath.

Antler is natural, so avoid soaking it, harsh chemicals and high heat such as dishwashers, stove tops or car dashboards. A thin coat of oil or wax on the antler now and then keeps it from drying out. Sharpen on a whetstone, holding a steady angle. Our full Damascus knife care guide walks through every step.
