What Makes Our Damascus Hawkbill Knife Stand Out?

Our Custom Handmade Damascus Steel Hawkbill Knife pairs a hand forged Damascus blade hardened to 60 HRC with a cast resin grip and a hand tooled cross draw leather sheath, all inside a compact 7 inch overall length.

Most small belt knives arrive with a plain pouch sheath added as an afterthought. Here the sheath is basket weave stamped and cut for cross draw carry, so knife and carry were worked out together rather than separately. Related western profiles sit in our cowboy knives collection.

What Is a Hawkbill Blade Shaped For?

The edge curves downward, so material gets drawn into the cut instead of pushed away from it. Rope under tension, twine, cordage and hide all respond better to a pulling stroke than a pushing one.

Force also concentrates near the middle of the curve, close to the knuckles, which is where hand control is strongest. Buyers who want a broader straight edged working blade can compare our bull cutter knives.

Why Does 60 HRC Damascus Steel Matter?

Layers of steel are heated, folded and forge welded until the pattern rises through the surface, then ground, hardened and sharpened by hand rather than run down a machine line.

Heat treatment brings the blade to 60 HRC, hard enough to hold a working edge through repeated cuts without becoming brittle at the tip. Longer profiles in the same steel appear in our Damascus hunting knives collection.

Will Two Knives Look the Same?

No two patterns come out alike. How the layers flow depends on how that billet moved under the hammer, so the blade you receive carries pattern work that belongs to it alone.

Resin behaves the same way. Swirl density and the balance of black to white shift slightly from one handle to the next.

How Does the Resin Handle Feel?

Cast resin resists moisture, oil and blood without swelling, splitting or drying out, which suits a knife that gets used wet and wiped down afterwards.

Contoured finger grooves give the hand somewhere to lock in, so grip security does not depend on squeezing hard. A lanyard hole at the butt takes cord for cold or wet work. More compact carry options sit in our EDC pocket knives range.

What Is a Cross Draw Leather Sheath?

Cross draw carry sits the knife flat across the front of the belt, angled for a clean pull with the opposite hand. Nothing digs in when you sit, ride or bend forward.

Belt slots are cut into the body of the leather rather than added as a separate loop, keeping the whole sheath tight to the hip.

Can the Knife Be Custom Engraved?

Personalised engraving is available on this knife. Add your text in the Engraving Instructions field on the product page before adding to cart, and our makers will apply it by hand.

Names, dates, initials and short phrases work best, since a compact blade offers limited surface. Send longer requests or logo artwork to support@stagsteelknives.com so we can confirm placement before forging begins. Engraved pieces are made to order, so allow extra production time.

How Should the Knife Be Maintained?

Wipe the blade dry after every use and apply a light coat of oil before storage, since Damascus steel carries carbon and will spot if left damp.

Keep the leather sheath dry and condition it once or twice a year. Store the knife outside the sheath for long periods, as leather holds moisture against steel.

Why Choose Our Damascus Hawkbill Knife?

Our hawkbill combines a hand forged Damascus blade at 60 HRC, a contoured resin grip, brass pin construction and a tooled cross draw sheath in a 7 inch package. Suited to ranch work, everyday cutting tasks and collectors who want a hooked profile in Damascus.
