The Last Stand Bowie – D2 Steel

The Last Stand is our handmade tribute to the most famous bowie in film — the Rambo Last Blood bowie knife. This is the D2 steel version: a full-tang D2 bowie knife with an 8-inch D2 tool-steel blade ground to a heavy 5mm thick, a forged Damascus guard, and a black micarta handle finished with a leather lanyard. It carries the long, lean clip-point profile of the Rambo bowie from Last Blood, built as a hard-use working blade. A field hunter's bowie and a collector's Rambo knife in one.

If you want the layered Damascus pattern instead of single-steel D2, this same knife is also offered in our VG10 Damascus version — same profile, same frame, the flowing forged pattern in place of the tool-steel blade.

Who makes it

Every Stag Steel blade is forged and finished by hand by Naqash Minhas, our founder and master maker, working steel since 2001. The Last Stand isn't assembled from bought-in parts. Naqash grinds the D2 blade, forges the Damascus guard, heat treats the blade, fits the micarta, and finishes the whole knife by hand in our Canadian shop. When you buy one, you're buying one man's hand work, not a factory production run.

The blade — D2 tool steel, 5mm thick

The blade is D2 tool steel, ground to a heavy 5mm thick at the spine. D2 is a legendary high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel — it's semi-stainless, far more rust-resistant than plain carbon steel, and it holds an edge for a very long time thanks to its hard carbide structure. That's why D2 is a favourite for hard-use field knives: it takes abuse, holds its edge through long work, and doesn't fuss. At 5mm thick with an 8-inch length, this is a stout, confident blade — there's real spine behind the clip point and the fuller, built to pry, chop, and cut without flexing.

Compare that to the licensed Last Blood replicas, which use soft 7Cr-series stainless. They look the part on a shelf, but they won't hold an edge like properly heat-treated D2.

The heat treat — the part that actually matters

A blade is only as good as its heat treat, and this is the step the cheap blades skip. After grinding, Naqash hardens the D2 and tempers it back to a working hardness of 59 to 61 HRC at the edge — hard enough to hold a keen edge through long use, tough enough to survive real field abuse. D2 rewards a careful heat treat with outstanding edge retention, and ours is done by hand, right, every time. The pattern of a knife tells you nothing about how it performs; the heat treat tells you everything.

The handle — black micarta and a full tang

The handle is black micarta, bolted to a full-tang blade. Micarta is the handle material serious users ask for: layered canvas set in resin, so it won't crack, swell, rot, or get slippery when it's wet with rain, sweat, or blood. The black gives this version a darker, more tactical look than the brown-handled Damascus one. The full tang means solid steel runs the entire length of the handle — no weak point where a stick tang would snap under hard use. A leather lanyard runs through the butt for carry or hanging. Built to be used, not babied.

Made by hand in Canada

We've been forging at Stag Steel Knives since 2001, and every blade is forged, ground, heat treated, and finished by hand in our Canadian shop. That's the difference between this and the licensed movie replicas: real D2 tool steel, a real forged Damascus guard, a real heat treat, one knife at a time. If you want the Rambo Last Blood bowie look in a blade that's actually built to work, the Last Stand in D2 is it.

It belongs in our D2 steel bowie knives collection and our wider bowie knives range, and it's equally at home among our hunting knives as a big field blade. New to the steel or the blade style? Our maker breaks it down in what a bowie knife is. Want the man behind the forge? Read about the makers.

If you like the rest of our movie-inspired bowies, this one sits right alongside the VG10 Damascus Last Stand and our Juan Padilla bowie knife — same hand-forged standard, different blades.

One at a time means this exact knife is the only one of its kind. When it sells, the next won't carry the same hand-ground finish. Free shipping across Canada, with affordable shipping rates to the USA and worldwide.

FAQs

Is this a Rambo Last Blood bowie knife?
This is a handmade D2 steel bowie inspired by the Rambo Last Blood bowie profile — the long clip-point blade seen in the film. It's forged and finished by hand in Canada by Stag Steel Knives and is an independent tribute, not an officially licensed replica.
What is the difference between the D2 and Damascus versions of this bowie?
The knives share the same profile, frame, forged Damascus guard, and full-tang micarta handle. This version uses a single D2 tool-steel blade ground 5mm thick with a black micarta handle, while the Damascus version uses a layered VG10 Damascus blade with a brown micarta handle. D2 is about edge retention and toughness; Damascus is about the forged pattern.
Is this D2 bowie blade stainless or will it rust?
D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel, far more rust-resistant than plain carbon steel but not fully stainless. It holds an edge exceptionally well. A wipe and an occasional light oil keeps it spotless.
What is the handle made of on this bowie knife?
The handle is black micarta over a full tang, with a leather lanyard. Micarta is layered canvas in resin, so it won't crack, swell, or get slippery when wet, which makes it one of the toughest handle materials for a working knife.
