A Working Knife with a Story Worth Telling

Every Black Rosewood Buckaroo starts its life on a farrier's bench, not a steel mill. Forged from a reclaimed hoof rasp, each blade carries the ghost of its former life in a one-of-a-kind surface texture no two knives share. Paired with a rosewood and turquoise handle and a pancake leather sheath, it is equal parts ranch tool, western heirloom, and conversation piece.

From Horseshoe to Heirloom

Before it was a blade, this steel spent years shaping hooves in a farrier's hands. Each rasp file earned its retirement through thousands of strokes, and instead of the scrap heap, it found a second life at the forge.

The result is a blade with genuine character: the original file pattern leaves a subtle, rippled texture along the spine that catches light differently on every knife. No two are alike. That is not a marketing line, it is metallurgy.

🔪

4" Drop-Point Blade

Compact enough for belt carry, substantial enough for ranch work, camp tasks, and skinning. The drop-point profile gives you control at the tip without sacrificing belly for slicing.

🪨

59, 61 RC Hardness

Hard enough to hold a working edge through long days, tough enough that it will not chip when you push it. This is the sweet spot for a knife that actually gets used.

🪵

Rosewood & Turquoise Handle

Genuine rosewood brings warmth, density, and a natural grip that improves with use. The turquoise inlay adds unmistakable southwestern character. This handle looks as good on a shelf as it feels in your hand.

🥞

Pancake Leather Sheath

A traditional western-style sheath that rides flat and close to your belt. Hand-stitched leather that will develop a rich patina alongside the knife. No plastic, no nylon, just leather and thread.

Quick Care

1Keep It Dry After Use +
Rasp steel is high-carbon, not stainless. After each use, especially in wet conditions or around game, wipe the blade clean and dry with a soft cloth. A light coat of mineral oil or blade wax will keep rust at bay for storage.
2Sharpen with Care +
At 59, 61 RC, this blade holds an edge well but is straightforward to sharpen when the time comes. A medium-grit whetstone or ceramic rod is all you need. Avoid pull-through carbide sharpeners, they can chew up a hand-forged edge.
3Leather Sheath Maintenance +
The pancake sheath is genuine leather. Keep it dry and condition it occasionally with a leather balm to maintain suppleness. Do not store the knife in the sheath for extended periods, trapped moisture is the enemy of both steel and leather.
4Adopt the Patina +
High-carbon rasp steel will develop a natural patina over time, a darkening that tells the story of every task it has seen. This is not a flaw. It is character. If you prefer the bright, out-of-the-box look, a quick polish with metal cleaner restores it in minutes.

FAQs

How does the custom engraving work?
Select the custom engraving option at checkout for an additional CAD $20. You can add a name, a short message, or a meaningful quote directly onto the blade. It is a popular choice for gifts, commemorations, and personalizing a knife you plan to carry for years.
What is rasp steel?
It's high-carbon steel repurposed from a farrier's rasp, the file used to shape horse hooves. Forged into a blade, it holds a great edge and keeps the raised file teeth, giving each knife its signature look and history.
Does it come with a sheath?
Yes, every rasp knife ships with a handmade pancake leather sheath, ready to carry out of the box.
